Green Smoothie Recipe for Nutrition Supplement Drinks

Intern Lora gets ready to make a green smoothie with Ensure!

In case you missed my article on this topic a few weeks ago, you’ll want to check it out: When Someone Has Poor Appetite: Tips for Making Nutrition Supplement Drinks Taste Good
Today’s recipe is another smoothie idea to use with nutrition supplement drinks (like Ensure, Boost, Carnation Instant Breakfast or store brand drink). I love this one because it’s a great way to take a canned/boxed nutrition drink and add some fresh ingredients that will provide extra nutrition and antioxidants.
PLUS –  you can make it with regular milk, or with milk substitute (like soymilk). This way, if you’re someone who likes smoothies, but doesn’t need the extra calories and protein from the supplement drink, feel free to make it with milk instead!
Here’s Intern Lora teaching you how to make your Green Smoothie!

I am looking for a supplemental drink that would be calorie dense to help a friend who is having trouble maintaining her weight (I do not have that problem). Another friend suggested using a protein powder in milk (Muscle Milk), but I am wondering if this might be way too much protein. What are your thoughts on this? (You can email me, if you prefer.)

Hi Jann, you are a good friend! A higher protein version would be with this recipe and using ensure plus. Or, you can add protein powder to milk (dry milk powder is the cheapest option). I think any of these options would be fine. I wouldn’t be concerned about too much protein unless your friend has something going on medically that would be stressed from protein (mainly I’m thinking of kidney issues or something like that). Check out my chai tea ensure smoothie post for more tips on making ensure taste good. 🙂
