February 26, 2018 By Julie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDN

Are you confused about what is fact when it comes to nutrition and cancer? Everyone seems to have an opinion on what you should eat but you wonder which suggestions actually have evidence. In this session, I cover:

  • popular nutrition myths
  • 5 core truths about nutrition and cancer
  • nutrition tips for managing side effects
  • what to eat for optimal well-being for cancer survivors during and after treatment
  • practical methods to decide what’s right for you!

This is the recording of the webinar I for Triage Cancer about 2 weeks ago, so they have an intro at the beginning that takes the first 4:33. FYI!

My brother has put himself on Ketogenic diet while undergoing chemo for recurring stage 4 metastatic colon cancer..now peritoneal. Oncologist recommends low residue. He doesn’t need to lose weight. I am an RD, trying to support him. Have spent tons of hours looking at all angles. Any thoughts and direction would be greatly appreciated. I will watch webinar in am.
    Gratefully,

I am so sorry about your brother’s diagnosis. Ketogenic diet is something people like to try but it’s very hard to stick to and doesn’t have strong evidence that it works. If he is maintaining weight on it, then it might be ok but def monitor labs and weight status. Low residue sounds reasonable. It’s really very individualized depending on surgeries, treatments and how he is tolerating them. He’s lucky to have an RD in the family!

I will be undergoing a radical prostatectomy later this month. The cancer is confined to the gland. Could you recommend a diet that might help to delay or stop the reoccurrence of my prostate cancer? My research suggests a Mediterranean or heart healthy choice of foods. I do not desire to go vegan as recommended by some prostate medical professionals. Thanks for your advice.

Thanks Julie, I will listen to your webinar. I am very interested in how to incorporate prostate healthy meals into my new way of eating. Your help is greatly appreciated!
