Apple Crisp Bars

Apple Filling:

  • 4 1/2 cups of cubed apples (2 large or 4 small)
  • 2 tablespoons swerve sugar substitute (or white sugar)
  • 2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons and 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Crust and Crumbles:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup swerve sugar substitute (or brown sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup Sugar-free caramel (for drizzle on top)

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 inch square oven-proof dish and line the bottom and sides with parchment paper. (you want about 2 inches of overhang on each side)

Apple Filling:

  1. Core and slice the apples into small pieces
  2. In a bowl, toss the apples with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg
  3. Set bowl aside until assembly

Crust and Crumbles:

  1. Grab a separate bowl and combine flour, cinnamon, and sugar
  2. Slice butter into thin cubes
  3. Add and mix in sliced butter to flour mixture
  4. Make sure that butter is covered in flour mixture

  1. Spread 2/3 of the crust mixture into the oven-proof dish with a spoon. Press into pan to ensure flour sticks to butter.
  2. Add the apple mixture over the crust mixture
  3. Add the remaining 1/3 crust mixture on top of the apple (you can make some big crumbles if you chose)
  4. Bake for 1 hour until the top becomes golden brown (optional: drizzle sugar-free caramel on top at 57 minutes and bake for the remaining 3 minutes)
  5. Let cool for 1 hour and store in the fridge for up to 4 days or freezer for up to 3 months!

Enjoy warm or cold!

Tip: Add a scoop of ice cream after warming up! Taste just like apple pie!
