Meal Plan Monday and Green Food Recipes!

April 21, 2014 By Julie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDN

I already shared that lots of people ask me for meal plans (see my post about meal planning). My husband and I did some planning ahead today and I thought I'd share what we've got on the menu. Feel free to duplicate, alter or ignore! In addition, I want to share two of my favorite 'green food' recipes, to go with my last article on why Green Foods are so good for you. They follow the meal plan! Cancer Dietitian's Week of Recipes: Monday: Mexican 5 Bean Soup (cooked in the … [Read more...]

Articles and recipes I’ve read recently.

August 19, 2013 By Julie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDN

First off, I have to plug the Centered Chef Avocado Chocolate Pudding recipe again. We finally had the chance to make it ourselves and it was so good. We've made it twice now. Our toddler loves it, and we even got good reviews from an adult taste tester last night - our neighbor, Linda! I wish I had a picture of her eating it. Here's a photo of our creation though! Anyway, what I wanted to share today is just a few links of recipes and articles I've used recently. First the … [Read more...]

And I'm not a fan of powdered versions of anything. But I needed to check into the facts to see what I could find out. Here's what … [Read more...]

Cancer Fighting Cooking Class – Quick, Easy and Healthy Recipes for Thanksgiving!

November 15, 2012 By Julie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDN

I taught a cooking class today for employees at Financial Pathways of the Piedmont, a non-profit that does credit counseling and helps clients avoid foreclosure. They were a really fun group that were more than willing to jump in and participate, ask great questions and share tips with each other. My favorite kind of class! I was able to make the salad dressing, whipped sweet potato and chili in 1 hour. The third recipe we made during class. The food costs was ~$50 and we had … [Read more...]

Recipes for Winter Greens – Powerful Cancer Fighters!

November 10, 2011 By Julie Lanford MPH, RD, CSO, LDN

Last article, I touched on new research for foods that prevent prostate cancer. The key message was for men to include plenty of cruciferous vegetables into their diets. Winter Greens Alright, so it's November and you might be starting to see all different kinds of leafy greens out there. I've been getting several different ones in my CSA vegetable box. Here's a list of what we've been getting recently: Bok choy Swiss chard Collards Kale Broccoli … [Read more...]
